It is easy to get overwhelmed with all the crazy things thrown at you by the school and your children. Meaning it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking everything is a problem. When the problems pile up it becomes overwhelming, frustrating, and isolating. Something has to give and it is easier to snap than to breathe calmly.
One way to cut the stress is to create a new question before everything blows up.
Is this a challenge, or a problem?
It is easy to get the two definitions flipped. One sounds better than other. I have a challenge sounds better than I have a problem.
Challenge means a call to a fight, battle, duel, etc.
Problem means any question or matter involving doubt, uncertainty, or difficulty. A question proposed for a solution, or discussion.
Yikes. Under those terms I'll take problems first and challenges second.
In my experience I find both come in handy. Yet, most children when they think they have a problem they feel something is bad, or wrong with them. Might be worth looking up the meaning of the word with them so they can understand the problem part is okay, what they're really struggling with is the challenge to do better.
